Check energy certificate: date, building and information

Review your energy certificate using a structured checklist. It identifies unresolved questions, does not issue a new certificate and does not confirm legal validity.

Energy certificate: your preliminary check

No upload, building address or registration required. Enter only the expiry date printed on the energy certificate. Your inputs remain in your browser; this tool does not certify authenticity or validity.

Expiry date is missing: take it from the document or ask the issuer.

Items still to check: 4

Only transfer the printed expiration date

The interactive check compares the expiry date you enter with a selected assessment date. It does not derive a legally binding expiry date from the issue date. An empty field leaves the question unresolved; a date before the assessment date is shown separately. A later date establishes only the date comparison, not the document’s authenticity. Copy the day, month and year carefully and check them against the original.

Match the document to the property

Section 85 GModG specifies information including certificate type, expiry date, registration number, building address and issuer details. Locate this information in the document and check that it covers the correct building. The check does not ask for an address or registration number and does not query an official database. Completing every box therefore does not certify the information’s accuracy or the issuer’s eligibility.

Difference to the energy certificate guide

This page helps you examine a document you already have. Our detailed guide explains energy-certificate types, how to obtain one and their relevance to sales and rentals. If the certificate is missing, pages are illegible or details conflict, note the specific question for the owner, property manager or issuer. Do not upload it here: the preliminary check stores neither a file nor an address.

Do not read key figures as a personal heating bill

The values in the document refer to the described assessment basis of the building. Do not use a key figure as the consumption of your specific apartment or as guaranteed heating costs without checking it. For a personal budget you will need further information and suitable receipts. Your own cost accounting, expert energy assessment or renovation planning are not part of the date and document check.

Pass on open questions in a meaningful way

Use the list for your own conversation: Which document is available, which information is missing, which page is unclear and who can provide information? The four working points can be marked independently of the date comparison. After four ticks, the reference to the technical examination remains. You do not need to register to use the check technically; changes only take effect in the open browser and are not restored after a reload.
